Name Picker Wheel
Use the name picker wheel to draw one person from a list without appointing someone to choose. Replace the sample names with your participants, put one person on each line and review the entries together before the first draw. It works for a meeting opener, a game turn, a volunteer order or a simple prize selection. Every entry starts with the same chance, and optional winner removal lets you work through the entire group without drawing the same entry twice.
Your entries
6 entriesEach die rolls independently. The wheel shows the first die; the result lists every die and the total. Keep the face entries unchanged.
Equal chance for every entry. Repeated labels count as separate entries.
How to use this wheel
- Review the preset entries and replace any labels that do not fit your name picker activity.
- Check the displayed entry count, duplicate lines and removal setting before starting.
- Select Spin the wheel, wait for the reveal and read the result in the dialog.
- Copy the result if you need a record, then close the dialog or start another round.
Prepare a clean participant list
Copy names from your own roster and paste them one per line. Count the visible entries against the expected number of participants. Blank lines are ignored, but repeated names remain separate tickets. If two people share a first name, add an initial or a participant number so you can tell them apart. Avoid sharing full names or other personal details in a public link without permission.
Choose between one draw and a running order
For a single speaker, leave removal off and spin once. To create a turn order, enable remove winner, then record each result as it appears. That setting removes only the selected entry, not every matching name, which matters if duplicate labels were intentional. Save an original copy of the roster before running several no-repeat draws so you can restore it later.
Make the selection understandable to everyone
Show the entry box before presenting the wheel. Announce whether everyone has one entry and whether previous winners stay eligible. For a small meeting, first names may be enough; for a larger event, anonymous ticket identifiers can reduce confusion. The fullscreen control is useful on a shared display, while the winner dialog gives a clear textual result for anyone who cannot distinguish wheel colors.
Handle attendance before you spin
Remove anyone who is absent or ineligible before starting, following the rule you announced. Do not quietly edit the list after seeing a winner. If your activity allows a person to decline, state whether you will redraw and whether the declined entry remains on the wheel. Consistent rules make a simple name draw easier to trust.
Frequently asked questions
Does pasting the same name twice increase its chance?
Yes. Two lines are two entries, even when they display identical names. With ten total entries, a label appearing on two lines has two chances out of ten. Remove accidental duplicates before drawing if each person should have one chance.
Can I draw all names without repeats?
Enable remove winner before the first spin. After every completed draw, the selected entry leaves the list. Continue until the list is empty. Save the starting roster locally first if you expect to use that same group again.
Are the names uploaded to SpinAndDecide?
The selection code processes the entries in your browser and does not send that list to our server. A share link contains the entries in its URL fragment, however, so anybody receiving the link can read them. Use participant IDs when privacy matters.
Can I change the order without changing the chances?
Yes. Shuffle and reverse rearrange the entries and their positions around the wheel. With equal weights, every entry keeps the same probability after either operation. Reordering is a presentation choice, not a way to create a different advantage.
