Pick a Number
Pick a number from 1 to 3 with three equal entries, or set a different small range using the minimum and maximum controls. This preset is a quick way to choose between numbered alternatives without writing long labels. Agree what each number means before spinning, whether that is one of three games, a player’s starting position or a numbered question. The wheel selects a number from your actual entries; it does not interpret what that number means in your activity.
Your entries
3 entriesEach die rolls independently. The wheel shows the first die; the result lists every die and the total. Keep the face entries unchanged.
Equal chance for every entry. Repeated labels count as separate entries.
How to use this wheel
- Review the preset entries and replace any labels that do not fit your pick a number activity.
- Check the displayed entry count, duplicate lines and removal setting before starting.
- Select Spin the wheel, wait for the reveal and read the result in the dialog.
- Copy the result if you need a record, then close the dialog or start another round.
Give each number a meaning before the draw
If three friends suggest three games, write down which game is 1, 2 and 3 before you spin. Otherwise it is easy to reinterpret a result in favor of a preferred option. The same principle applies to seating positions or numbered prompts. For alternatives with confusing labels, a short decision wheel may be clearer because it displays the actual choices directly.
Adjust the range with the controls
The starting minimum is one and the starting maximum is three. Enter a different pair of whole numbers and select Apply range to rebuild the entries. Both endpoints are included. The minimum must not exceed the maximum, and the interval must contain at most 1000 values. For non-consecutive choices, such as 2, 5 and 9, edit the lines instead of applying a range.
Distinguish equal entries from equal groups
One line each for 1, 2 and 3 gives a one-in-three chance to every number. If you use 1 and 2 for one team and 3 for another, the teams are not equally likely: one has two winning numbers. Use one entry per intended outcome if you want equal group chances. Explain any deliberate weighting or repeated entries before treating the result as fair.
Use number picks for small practical choices
Numbered selection is useful when people can see the mapping, such as three wrapped gifts marked 1, 2 and 3. It is less useful when participants must remember a long hidden list. Keep the mapping close to the tool, read the result aloud and record it if later rounds depend on earlier assignments. Random selection is only one part of a clear process.
Frequently asked questions
Can this pick a number from 1 to 3?
Yes. That is the starting setup: three entries labeled 1, 2 and 3 with equal weighting. Each has a one-in-three chance. You can restore that preset after experimenting with other ranges or custom entries.
Can I pick between numbers that are not consecutive?
Yes. Replace the entry box with your chosen values, one per line. A list containing 2, 5 and 9 has three possible results and does not silently include the missing numbers between them.
Can I pick just one fixed number?
A list containing one entry will always select that entry. The tool permits it, but there is no uncertainty to resolve. Add at least two different eligible values if your goal is a random choice between alternatives.
What happens when I set the maximum below the minimum?
The tool reports a range error and keeps the existing entries. Correct the endpoints and apply the range again. It also rejects fractional endpoints and intervals containing more than five hundred values.
