Random Number 1–9
This random number 1–9 wheel starts with every whole number from 1 through 9, including both endpoints. There are 9 distinct entries, each with a one-in-9 chance before the list changes. It is useful for a three-by-three activity grid, where you already have a clear number-to-item mapping. Select Spin the wheel to reveal a number, or edit the range controls if your task requires different bounds. The number is selected locally in your browser; no account or uploaded spreadsheet is required.
Your entries
9 entriesEach die rolls independently. The wheel shows the first die; the result lists every die and the total. Keep the face entries unchanged.
Equal chance for every entry. Repeated labels count as separate entries.
How to use this wheel
- Review the preset entries and replace any labels that do not fit your random number 1–9 activity.
- Check the displayed entry count, duplicate lines and removal setting before starting.
- Select Spin the wheel, wait for the reveal and read the result in the dialog.
- Copy the result if you need a record, then close the dialog or start another round.
A practical use for 1–9
Number a three-by-three grid in reading order. A result chooses a square, which can hold a drawing exercise, vocabulary item or optional challenge. The row and column are a mapping you define. To select a grid cell uniformly, keep each of the nine labels once; do not give the center extra copies just because it touches more lines.
Understand the 9-value distribution
With the untouched preset, the chance of any particular value is 1/9, approximately 11.1111 percent. There are 4 even values and 5 odd values in this range. Therefore an even result has probability 4/9, while an odd result has probability 5/9. Those group probabilities count how many eligible labels belong to each group; the tool does not favor odd or even values intentionally. Several repeats can occur by chance when removal is off.
Choose independent draws or a sequence of 9
Leave Remove winner off when every draw should begin with all 9 possible labels. Turn it on when each number may appear at most once during a run. After one removal, the remaining entries each have a one-in-8 chance, rather than the original one-in-9 chance. Save the full starting list before drawing a long sequence, and use Reset preset to restore it. The recent-results display is temporary and is not an exported audit record.
Change the interval without changing the meaning
The Minimum and Maximum fields define an inclusive integer interval. Apply range replaces the entry box with every integer in that interval and turns weights off. Review the resulting count before spinning. You can also delete unavailable labels manually to make a non-consecutive set, but its size then determines the odds. Shuffling or reversing the order changes the visual arrangement, not the equal chance assigned to each remaining line.
Read the numeric label literally
The result is an integer label. It does not rank the selected item, evaluate quality or infer a preferred answer. Keep your external mapping visible when other people need to interpret the draw.
Use a stable three-by-three grid map
Label the top row 1, 2 and 3, the middle row 4, 5 and 6, and the bottom row 7, 8 and 9 if reading order suits your activity. Keep that map visible. A result of five then identifies the center square. The wheel does not know which square you consider central or where a physical board is positioned.
For a drawing exercise, place one subject in each square and select a prompt. For a grid game, decide what happens when an occupied square is chosen. Removal can avoid revisiting a number during one session, but it does not track pieces, detect a winning line or enforce game turns. Those are board rules managed outside the picker.
Frequently asked questions
What number is the center of a reading-order 3×3 grid?
It is 5 under the mapping described here. You may use another mapping if everyone understands it.
Is the center square more likely than a corner?
No. Each numbered square has one-ninth chance when all labels appear once.
Does this enforce tic-tac-toe rules?
No. It chooses a number and does not track moves, occupied squares or winners.
How do I avoid revisiting a selected grid position?
Use removal or delete unavailable positions before the next draw. Keep the external board consistent with the active list.
