A little chance. A lot of possibilities.

Random Number 1–8

This random number 1–8 wheel starts with every whole number from 1 through 8, including both endpoints. There are 8 distinct entries, each with a one-in-8 chance before the list changes. It is useful for eight bracket slots, where you already have a clear number-to-item mapping. Select Spin the wheel to reveal a number, or edit the range controls if your task requires different bounds. The number is selected locally in your browser; no account or uploaded spreadsheet is required.

Weighted mode: write each line as Option | 3. Weights are whole numbers from 1 to 1000. Move a single entry by cutting and pasting its line.

Saving the same title replaces that saved copy. Links include your exact entries; share public text only. Local saves can be cleared by your browser.

How to use this wheel

  1. Review the preset entries and replace any labels that do not fit your random number 1–8 activity.
  2. Check the displayed entry count, duplicate lines and removal setting before starting.
  3. Select Spin the wheel, wait for the reveal and read the result in the dialog.
  4. Copy the result if you need a record, then close the dialog or start another round.

A practical use for 1–8

Number eight starting slots for a casual bracket. Draw without replacement to assign one participant per slot, recording every assignment outside the tool. Eight entries can label the combinations of three binary attributes. Equal labels make each combination equally likely only when all eight distinct combinations appear exactly once.

Understand the 8-value distribution

With the untouched preset, the chance of any particular value is 1/8, approximately 12.5 percent. There are 4 even values and 4 odd values in this range. Therefore an even result has probability 4/8, while an odd result has probability 4/8. Those group probabilities count how many eligible labels belong to each group; the tool does not favor odd or even values intentionally. Several repeats can occur by chance when removal is off.

Choose independent draws or a sequence of 8

Leave Remove winner off when every draw should begin with all 8 possible labels. Turn it on when each number may appear at most once during a run. After one removal, the remaining entries each have a one-in-7 chance, rather than the original one-in-8 chance. Save the full starting list before drawing a long sequence, and use Reset preset to restore it. The recent-results display is temporary and is not an exported audit record.

Change the interval without changing the meaning

The Minimum and Maximum fields define an inclusive integer interval. Apply range replaces the entry box with every integer in that interval and turns weights off. Review the resulting count before spinning. You can also delete unavailable labels manually to make a non-consecutive set, but its size then determines the odds. Shuffling or reversing the order changes the visual arrangement, not the equal chance assigned to each remaining line.

Read the numeric label literally

The result is an integer label. It does not rank the selected item, evaluate quality or infer a preferred answer. Keep your external mapping visible when other people need to interpret the draw.

Prepare a transparent eight-slot assignment

An eight-position casual bracket needs a clear slot map before random allocation. Number the visible positions and decide the participant order first. Use removal to prevent two people receiving the same slot. The tool chooses slot numbers only; it does not create matches, advance winners or determine whether tournament seeding rules have been satisfied.

For a creative combination exercise, eight labels can represent all combinations of three binary attributes. For example, combine two colors, two shapes and two sizes. Write out the eight combinations once each, then map them to the numbers. If combinations are missing or repeated, the distribution no longer represents the complete balanced set you intended.

Frequently asked questions

Does the wheel generate an eight-team bracket?

No. It can assign numbered slots in a bracket you prepare separately.

Can eight labels represent three binary choices?

Yes. Two times two times two gives eight combinations. Include every combination once in your lookup table.

What is the chance of selecting a number in the upper half?

Labels 5, 6, 7 and 8 make four of eight outcomes, giving one-half.

Will random slot assignment balance player ability?

No. Random positions do not assess skill. Use suitable seeding rules separately when ability balance matters.
