How to Share a Spin Wheel
A wheel link and a completed result solve different problems. A configuration link lets another person open the same starting entries and settings, then make a fresh random selection. Copied result text records what your own wheel already selected. This guide explains how SpinAndDecide creates configuration links, what recipients can read and how to check a link before sending it. No account or cloud wheel library is required, but the link itself contains the list, so it is appropriate only for text you are comfortable sharing.

Prepare the version you actually want to send
Open the relevant preset, edit the wheel title and put each option on a separate line. Check for accidental duplicate labels and remove notes that should not be public. Choose the theme, weighting and removal settings intentionally. For a team picker, verify the team count; for dice, verify the die size, count and modifier. A configuration captures the current state, so make these changes before copying the link rather than assuming the recipient will see later edits.
Copy the configuration link
Expand Customize, save & share and choose Copy wheel link. The browser encodes the title, entries and supported settings into the URL fragment after #wheel=. If clipboard access is unavailable, the tool exposes the text in a selectable box for manual copying. Copy the complete value, including the fragment. A shortened or truncated version may load the ordinary page preset instead of your list. Large configurations can exceed the supported link limit and should be reduced before sharing.
Understand what is public in the link
The encoded text is a transport format, not encryption or access control. Anyone receiving the link can open the wheel and read its entries. Links can also appear in messages, screenshots, browser history or another recipient’s copied text. Use initials or anonymous labels for a public classroom example, and do not include contact details, private circumstances or participant records. The fragment is interpreted by the browser tool; other systems through which you distribute the complete link may still retain it.
Test in a fresh tab before distributing
Paste the complete link into a new tab and confirm the title, entry count and important settings. A yes-or-no list should still contain the intended two entries; a no-repeat draw should have the removal setting you selected. You do not need to spin to test the input configuration. If you do test a draw with removal enabled, avoid copying the now-shorter list as your final starting link. Return to the intended complete configuration before generating another link.
Explain fresh results to recipients
Two people opening the same wheel do not receive synchronized spins. Each browser generates its own random result when its operator spins. A link cannot prove that everyone saw the same draw or that an operator never rerolled. If a group must witness one shared selection, use a single presented screen and an agreed process. For exact completed team assignments, copy the result text rather than telling recipients to open the roster and generate new teams.
Distinguish a local save from a shared copy
Save wheel stores the current configuration in this browser profile using local storage. It is useful for reopening a list on the same device, but it does not create an online account or update another person’s copy. Changing a locally saved wheel does not rewrite a link you already sent. To distribute an edited version, generate and send a new link with a clear note about what changed. Keep important master lists in your own suitable records as well.
Share completed outcomes when that is the goal
After a draw, Copy result copies the displayed outcome. A dice result includes the individual faces and arithmetic; a team result includes the full allocation. That copied text is a record of the display, not a cryptographic certificate or an independently verified event log. Add your own context, such as the activity and draw time, if the recipient needs it. Do not imply that a plain-text result makes a formal promotion auditable.
Troubleshoot a link that opens incorrectly
First confirm that the link includes #wheel= and that your messaging app has not cut off the end. The tool reports unsupported formats and restores the page preset when it cannot apply the configuration. Try a smaller list if the link is too large. Do not repeatedly send a broken link while assuming the recipient can reconstruct missing entries. For a long public list, provide a plain-text master list through an appropriate channel and have the recipient paste it into the editor.
Frequently asked questions
Can I share a wheel without creating an account?
Yes. Copy wheel link produces a configuration URL directly in your browser. It does not require registration or a hosted wheel profile.
Does the shared link preserve the winner?
No. It preserves entries and settings. Copy result is the way to share the displayed completed outcome.
Can I edit a link after sending it?
No. A copied link is a snapshot. Make the changes, copy a new link and tell recipients to use the revised version.
Is an encoded wheel link private?
No. Anyone who receives the full link can read the entries. Encoding is not encryption or a password.
